I don’t agree with the opposition between ‘free’ music and music coming from the major labels. I don’t think majors should ‘fear’ the ‘new way’ of doing things. There are different people with different needs as listeners. There is still a big need for the music production & distribution model of the traditional labels catering for a specific audience. The netlabels are just offering a different, alternative way to think about music. There is no opposition. They can exist together, as long as no artificial confrontation is imposed between them. They can operate parallel and independent from each other, or they can come together and create partnerships for events, sharing know-how, etc. This is not bad for music. The ‘digital age’ is very good for music – both the artists and the listeners.
