AT THE DOOR
Short Film Screenplay
EXT STREET. DAY 1. DUSK.
We are looking at a SUBURBAN STREET some time AFTER SUNSET. There is no one in the street. The only SOUND WE HEAR is a constant HAMMERING on a door. It is long and insistent; no one seems to answer.
A CYCLIST passes the street; we HEAR the distinct sound of the BICYCLE. Meanwhile, the HAMMERING continues. We HEAR a single DOG BARK. In the background, we HEAR some distant sounds of CAR ENGINE and/or other street sounds.
We SEE a MALE’S HAND putting a FREE SAMPLE of a DOORBELL on THE DOORSTEP of one of the houses. It clearly says FREE SAMPLE on the packaging and there are terms of purchase and trial period.
EXT STREET. DAY 2. DUSK.
We are looking at the SAME STREET, again AFTER SUNSET, with no people in the street. This time, we HEAR a DOORBELL constantly RINGING. We SEE this is the SAME HOUSE from DAY 1. We SEE the MALE’S HAND ringing the DOORBELL. It is clear that this is THE SAME SAMPLE DOORBELL from DAY 1, this time attached and working. The male continues ringing for a long time, but again, no one answers.
EXT STREET. DAY 3. DUSK. We are looking at the SAME EMPTY STREET, at the SAME TIME AFTER SUNSET. We SEE the SAME HOUSE, where the SAME SAMPLE DOORBELL is back in its package and left on the DOORSTEP. A HANDWRITTEN NOTE is attached to it, reading:
Thanks, but we’re not interested.
